The hostel packing checklist (don't forget these)

Everything to bring for your first day in a hostel — and the small things people always forget.

Team Riwaq1 min read

Packing for hostel life is an art: bring enough to be comfortable, not so much that you can't fit it in your room. Here's a field-tested list.

Bedding & comfort

  • Bedsheets, a pillow and a pillowcase
  • A light blanket or duvet (and a warmer one for winter)
  • A small towel and a bath towel

Most hostels — Riwaq included — provide the bed, mattress and storage, so you're bringing the soft layer on top.

Daily essentials

  • Toiletries and a wash bag
  • A padlock for your personal storage
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A power extension board (you'll always want more sockets)

Study & work

  • Laptop and all its chargers
  • A pair of headphones for shared spaces
  • Notebooks, pens, and any course materials

The things people forget

  • Slippers / sandals for the room and washroom
  • A few hangers
  • Basic medicines — paracetamol, plasters, anything you take regularly
  • Copies of your documents (CNIC, student ID) for registration
  • A small first-week snack stash

What you don't need to bring

If your hostel provides furniture, WiFi, hot water and housekeeping, leave the bulky stuff at home. Check what's included first — see our admission checklist for exactly what to bring to Riwaq.

Travel light, settle in fast.
